Bontrager TLR Flash Charger Floor Pump

About five years ago I was racing at Whitetail Ridge in River Falls, Wisconsin, the trail was wet and muddy. As I made my way along the trail, I kept passing riders who were slipping, sliding, and falling all over the place. One guy yelled to me “How are you staying up?” “I’m tubeless,” was my reply. Since then, the world of tubeless mountain bike wheels and tires has changed dramatically and new Bontrager TLR Flash Charger pump is changing the tubeless world again. Now, there is no need for an air compressor or magic pump skills to seat your tubeless tires.
The TLR Flash Charger works as a standard floor pump, push the red lever down, fill the larger “charge” chamber to 160 PSI and you have the equivalent of an air compressor to seat your tubeless tires with. After spending years of planning trips to the bike shop to use the compressor to seat my tubeless tires, I welcomed the idea of being able to swap and seat tires at home.
The other night while unpacking my husband’s bike from a bike bag (we had just flown home from Colorado), we saw that the bead had broken on his tubeless set-up. After charging the reserve chamber and releasing the valve, we heard “pop, pop, pop” - the sounds of his tires seating against the rim. Just like that, his tires were seated and he was ready to ride; no need for CO2 or an air compressor.
A little larger than a standard floor pump, the Bontrager TLR Flash Charger pump accommodates both presta and schrader valves and features a bleed valve that lets you take pressure out of your tires after they are inflated. The TLR Flash Charger will set you back $120, but if you are running tubeless hoops, it’s a great investment.
